Tuesday: the power of gathering in His name

For the second devotional in our week of Prayer and Fasting Ann Robinson shares reflections on the power of gathering in His name. That might be at church for our Sunday adult meetings, or in our kids and youth groups for times of encountering God, times for joy and togetherness. Let’s not forget activities through the week; small groups in people homes, and ministry activities that reach and serve people in our local community.

Focus verse: Matthew 18:19-20: “Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”

When we meet together as a group of Christians we have a promise that we will encounter The Lord’s presence.

As we come before God it is good to spend a silent moment just being still before Him, quieting our thoughts and emotions. We come into His presence as we Praise Jesus for who He is and give thanks for all that He has redeemed us from, for His goodness and mercy. Quietly breathing in and asking Him to fill us again with His Holy Spirit.

God loves each one of us and longs for us to come before Him, to worship Him and to bring our requests before Him.

We can then begin to bring our petitions and desires before our Heavenly Father, whether in corporate prayer or a small group.

We can then spend time praying for the desperate needs we see in our world.  We breathe out His love, truth and power as we cry out to see lives transformed and justice restored as we pray together.

In this week of prayer, we pray particularly for revival in our sites and communities. Please pray to see the Lord move powerfully in people’s lives, cry out for the Lord to give each of us a fresh vision for this coming year.

Give thanks for all the outreach ministries in our churches, and how the Lord uses these to reach people often in great need. Pray too that many more in our congregations will want to become involved. Pray too that will grow in our love for our Saviour Jesus Christ and in our love for one another.

Question for reflection:

How can you make the most of the opportunities to gather with other believers this week, and in the future?
