Caring for creation and our Kerith family

Caring for creation and caring for one of our church families came together on the Coronation Bank Holiday Monday at Kerith Windsor, and we turned it into part of the Coronation ‘Big Help Out’ volunteer day too.  We had been intending to hold a Creation Care Day to help clear and develop the land around our Hub building into a more sustainable and better-managed environment, but when we heard of one of our church families who had been going through a difficult time and who needed help to clear their garden then it seemed like the perfect opportunity to combine both projects.  Very quickly a team of 20 people signed up and gathered early on Monday morning: we were worried as the weather forecast looked terrible!  But we quickly got to work. We were blessed with enthusiastic volunteers, (mostly) dry weather and refreshments provided by others in the team including delicious home-baked cakes and bacon butties to start the day.

We all agreed it was really good fun to spend the morning together, to be a community together, to be helping others in practical ways, showing love and care to those in our family, but also to look after the land we have been given as a church and to be actively demonstrating our commitment to Creation Care.  Everyone enjoyed themselves – even despite the brutally hard digging, pruning, clearing and strimming at times – and left with a great sense of satisfaction at having improved our environment and left a much more beautiful garden for the family to enjoy. Donations were also poured in to help them buy a trampoline.  We were building God’s kingdom, on earth as it is in heaven.

It was also a great opportunity to get to know each other better. We will look out for future projects of this kind to share together in the future so if you are interested in getting involved please come and find me or Adam Parsonage on a Sunday morning. Or you could email us at creation.care@kerith.church

Thanks to all those who enthusiastically gave their time, energy, ‘blood sweat and tears’! and to those who gave generously in other ways.
